Here’s a test for the German speakers out there: which is faster...saying Geschwindigkeitsbeschränkung (German for speed limit), or typing the same query character-by-character?

Voice has always been the most natural way to interact with a phone -- speaking is typically faster and easier than typing. We first developed Search by voice for English, and then for Mandarin Chinese and Japanese. Today we’re excited to welcome speakers of French, German, Italian, and Spanish.

Images of Google Search by Voice in Italian (Android), German (iPhone), Spanish (BlackBerry)

Our goal is to bring Google Search by voice to speakers of all languages. We follow a rigorous process to add each new language or dialect. Working directly with native speakers in each country, we spend weeks collecting spoken utterances to create the specific models which power the service. Our helpers are asked to read popular queries in their native tongue, in a variety of acoustic conditions such as in restaurants, out on busy streets, and inside cars. We also construct, for each language, a vocabulary of over one million recognizable words. It’s no small feat, but we love doing it.

Note that our new language models are designed for accents from Spain, France, Italy, and Germany. If you speak one of the new languages with another accent (for example, German in Austria, French in Switzerland, or Spanish in Mexico), Search by voice may not work so well for you.

How you get started with Google Search by voice depends on what kind of phone you have. If your phone runs Android 2.1 or later, and you have the Quick Search Box installed, all you have to do is tap the microphone icon to start a voice-powered search. iPhone and BlackBerry users who already have Google Mobile App installed can enable voice search by selecting the new languages from the settings panel within the app.

If you have Android 1.6 or 2.1 (Donut or Eclair), and you have already installed the Search by voice application, starting later today voice search will return recognition results for French, German, Italian or Spanish if your phone has one of those languages chosen in ‘Language and keyboard’ settings. If you do not have the Search by voice application, you can install it from Android Market on your phone - search for ‘voice search‘. This application is only available in the Android Markets for France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

To get Google Mobile App for iPhone, search for ‘Google Mobile App’ in the App Store or follow this link. BlackBerry and Nokia S60 users should visit m.google.com using their phone’s browser.

Learn more at http://mobile.google.com and select your country in the footer.

So if you speak French, Italian, German, Spanish, grab your phone and bid Google Search by voice a hearty Salut! Willkommen! Benvenuto! ¡Bienvenido!

(Cross-posted on the Official Google Blog and Android Developers Blog)

One billion is a pretty big number by any measurement. However, when it’s describing the speed at which something is growing, it’s simply amazing. This past weekend, thanks to Android users around the world, Android Market exceeded 10 billion app downloads—with a growth rate of one billion app downloads per month. We can’t wait to see where this accelerating growth takes us in 2012.

To celebrate this milestone, we partnered with some of the Android developers who contributed to this milestone to make a bunch of great Android apps available at an amazing price. Starting today for the next 10 days, we’ll have a new set of awesome apps available each day for only 10 cents each. Today, we are starting with Asphalt 6 HD, Color & Draw for Kids, Endomondo Sports Tracker Pro, Fieldrunners HD, Great Little War Game, Minecraft, Paper Camera, Sketchbook Mobile, Soundhound Infinity & Swiftkey X.

Of course, none of these apps would have existed if it weren’t for the developers who created them. Every day, these developers continue to push the limits on what’s possible and delight us in the process. For that, we thank them.

Please join us in this 10-day celebration and check in every day to see what new apps our developer partners are making available on Android Market - for only a dime.

Nokia Lumia 505,510 & 610 users looking for different options to Skype to make video calls I selected the two alternatives that work best. These two alternatives to Skype Lumia 505 to provide a quality experience in the mobile model underWindows Phone are really stable.

The Lumia 505,510 & 610 is one of the phones easier s in the range of smartphones with Windows Phone and includes 256MB of RAM and 4GB of storage . For this reason video calls require applications efficient to maintain stability, good image and sound quality.

Below are the two apps we suggest you from the blog.

Also read : Top 5 apps for android to make free calls

1. Viber

It has one of the largest communities in the segment of video calls and is one of the most interesting alternatives to Skype for Lumia  . With 175 million users and hundreds of thousands that are added daily to the service, this application allows video calls, send messages and share images of text totally free.

Calls are made via VoIP like Skype but has some aspects that outperform the most popular application segment and those are: High quality sound for voice communication, the ability to create groups of up to 16 people and option to share locations and WhatsApp .

Besides its Metro interface is pleasant and intuitive. The service uses your phone number as user ID and makes an automatic synchronization of your contact list.

Requires at least Windows Phone 7 .5 Mango.

2.Tango Video Calls

It is the second major option for Skype Lumia 505 and offers the possibility to make video calls via a connection 3G , 4G or WiFi and communicate with users who have the application installed on your PC, Android , BlackBerry or iOS.

The tool allows you to make voice calls that can instantly become communications with audio and video . It uses very simple, intuitive and does not require you to register to use it.

Works great in every way, the sound and picture quality is excellent and its minimalist interface will guide you through each of the functions. Requires at least Windows Phone 7.5 Mango to run and the Nokia Lumia 705 applications greatly exceeds Skype.

Which of these applications you most? If you liked the post you can share it on social networks .

Purchasing an iPhone is not cheap and not always easy. Some people have to queue up for minutes and hours just to buy their phones while some just pay Fedex to ship it to them. Whichever way you got your device, am sure you worked hard for it and it will be very painful if someone stole it or you misplaced it.
The good news is that all hope isnt lost if you misplaced your device or someone stole it.
Apple has a software called Find My iPhone, which does a very good job in retrieving and wiping devices amongst other features. However, sometimes, Find My iPhone just wont work when you go to www.icloud.com to find your device and this is even more true when your device is jailbroken.
If your device is jailbroken, you wont be able to wipe your device remotely and some features may not even work at all.
So, with all these issues with Apples security and tracking software, what options are available out there especially for jailbroken devices?

Well, below is a list of Find My iPhone alternative apps that you can find through Cydia and App Store. i have tried and used some for a while.

1. iTracker: This software is great an very useful. you can find it via the Cydia store if your device is jailbroken. This app is powerful and it is an AntiLost and Tracking app for iPhone. Its not free though except you download a cracked version from sinfuliphone repo.

2. iGotYa: This is another powerful tracking and anti theft app. Its more simple than the previous one. it allows you to take pictures of the thief secretly if you have front camera and also get the location of your phone. You will need to protect your device with an unlock code and iGotYa will do the rest. Also, the user can gain access into the phone or device even if the wrong passcode was entered but all your data (SMS, Call History etc) will be inaccessible.
The reason for the app allowing the thief to gain access is to discourage the thief from wiping and reloading the device.
you can find this app from Cydia
3. Cylay: This app is my favorite of all the tracking and anti theft app have used. Very simple and works flawlessly. It is the first anti-theft and security iPhone software in the world. It supports real time locating, locking and tracking of your device. This software is on Cydia and its free to download with 30 days trial and just $20 for a year.

4. ServiceMonitor: This is also an online mobile monitoring app. you can remotely destroy/wipe your phone, force it to ring (even if on vibrate), lock the screen, track and map the phones location at regular intervals.
You can download the free trial if you need it.

5. iHound: Wonderful application. A close relation of Apples Find My iPhone. It tracks and protect your data too. You can use this app to track and locate your device if stolen. It sends your phones location to iHound servers every 10 minutes by default. This timing can be changed if you like.
Its a great app and you should try it out. Subscription is mandatory if you really want to enjoy this app.

There it is folks, a short list of Tracking and Anti-Theft Find My iPhone alternative apps. Its not advisable to have all these apps installed on one device as they will consume a lot of RAM, battery power and also data since they have to constantly connect to a remote server, internet etc.
Try out all you can and stick with the best and delete the remaining you dont really fancy.

If you know of any other ones that are great, please share and lets know about it.

We don’t have to tell you that the workforce is increasingly mobile, and that workers on the go expect to be fully productive on email and calendar from their mobile devices. But we do want to tell you that we have a few new features for Google Sync users that will help employees work efficiently from anywhere on their iPhones and iPads.

Google Sync keeps your phone’s native mail and calendar apps in sync with your Gmail, Calendar and Contacts. Today, three new updates to Google Sync for iOS will allow you to:
  • Search all your emails in Gmail, not just the emails stored locally by the iOS mail app.

  • Accept, decline or edit calendar events from the iOS calendar app.

  • Send email from the address you want. We recognize that some of you manage multiple email addresses from a single Gmail account.Gmail’s “Send Mail as” feature lets you send messages with another email address listed as the sender instead of your Gmail address, e.g. joe@altostrat.com instead of joe@gmail.com. Now the iOS mail app will respect these settings.
These three updates are available to both Gmail and Google Apps email accounts.

Nokias chief executive Stephen Elop have given a reason why Nokia didnt choose Android to replace Symbian  in 2010 when it decided to ditch  Symbian OS from its phones and replace it with the struggling Microsoft OS for mobile, Windows Phone OS.

According to Elop, the choice he made was right and he and his team  are happy to have made the choice back in 2010 and still stands by it even now.
He stated that Nokia decided not to go with Android because it seemed like and OS that would be totally dominated by one manufacturer which is what is happening now.

He stated and implied that Samsung is totally controlling Android giving other phone manufacturers little or no chance at success as evident with what HTC is facing in the android space.

In Stephen Elops words "Im very happy with the decision we made," he said.
"What we were worried about a couple of years ago was the very high risk that one hardware manufacturer could come to dominate Android. We had a suspicion of who it might be, because of the resources available, the vertical integration, and we
were respectful of the fact that we were quite late in making that decision. Many others were in that space already."

"Now fast forward to today and examine the Android ecosystem, and theres a lot of good devices from many different companies, but one company has essentially now become the dominant player."

That one company is Samsung.

While some may see good number of points in Stephens rationale,  some may see it as a bad call especially considering the fact that Nokia was already in the phone business long ago before Samsung.
Nokia is a known name amongst so many people, with trusted and quality hardware that are known to be built to last.
Should in case they completed talks with Google back in 2010 and use Android as symbian substitute they would have really gone far.

Besides, theres a huge amount of people who dont really like the Korean company for their copying of iPhone and consequently most westerners would have favoured Nokia as their choice for Android rather than Samsung.

The truth is,  Android have really become a force in the mobile ecosystem and Nokia would have benefited strongly from it if it joined Android in 2010 when Samsung wasnt even a force.

Nokia refraining from Android because of Samsung or because of manufacturer dominating the Android platform shouldnt be a huge reason at all. Instead, Nokia should have challenged Samsung to the call.
Even though Samsung has a lot when it comes to manufacturing power, Nokia is also has equal amount manufacturing power combined with patents and superior hardware and name that would have set it apart from Samsung completely.

Well, as far as Stephen is concerned, there is no going back now.  They are sticking  with Windows Phone 8 and will get to that level they plan to.

Is this really a smart move by Stephen Elop to go with Windows Phone OS instead of Android?  You tell us.

This is a big week for Xbox One!  I am pleased to share a few exciting developments as we continue our journey to deliver the best Xbox ever.

First, we hit an important milestone as we began full production of the Xbox One console recently.  The culmination of many years of listening to you, our fans, developing innovative technology, and partnering with the best game and entertainment partners in the industry has brought us to this point.  There is still a lot more work to do, but the teams are making excellent progress and are focused on launch.

Speaking of launch, we’re now in a position to share that Xbox One will be available on Nov. 22, 2013 in all 13 of our initial launch markets – Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and USA.  Many more markets will follow in 2014.

We are humbled and gratified by the tremendous interest in Xbox One from game fans everywhere.  We have sold out of our pre-order supply in the U.S. faster than at any other time in our history and we are on path to have the biggest launch of an Xbox ever.  We look forward to celebrating with millions and millions of gamers this holiday.

As a result of this incredible consumer demand and the development progress on Xbox One, I am thrilled to share that today we are making available a limited number of additional Xbox One Day One consoles for pre-order.  We have coordinated with our retail partners to make it easy for you to reserve your Xbox One today

Finally, in the spirit of continuing to bring new value and excitement to Xbox, I am also pleased to confirm that the development team has increased the CPU from 1.6GHZ to 1.75GHZ, roughly a 10 percent increase in CPU performance. This is on top of the 6% increase we previously announced for the GPU.  What does this mean to you the gamer? It means that the Xbox One will have that much more power for developers to make their games and entertainment really shine.  We’re going to keep bringing more value to the Xbox One as we head towards launch building on some of the advancements we have already shared such as the 40 plus improvements to the Xbox One controller, advancements to help you find the perfect opponent and make the most of our online community, to the power of the cloud.

Xolo is trying to move into a new premium space with the launch of its Q3000 smartphone. While most of its launches have been products in the range of Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 12,000, this new device is one of the companys most expensive ever, with a launch MRP of Rs. 20,999. To justify that price tag, Xolo is throwing in the kind of banner features that everyone else is advertising in their own flagship phones today: a full-HD 1920x1080-pixel screen, large battery, quad-core processor, and camera thats sensitive in low light.

International brands that sell phones with such specifications ususally price them at Rs. 35,000 or more, so were curious to see whether Xolo is actually trying to match their performance, or is simply offering something that appears to tick all the right boxes but doesnt perform as well in the real world.

100_0696rs_241314_171341_0546.jpg/

Look and feel

The Q3000 arrived for testing in a very smart-looking white box. The front is mostly unadorned, but the back has a list of features and highlights. The box slides open with a light pull, and the phone itself sits right on top. Beneath it is a compartment that holds the bundled flip case and screen guard, and below that are two more compartments which contain the battery, USB-OTG dongle, charger, headset, and printed quick start booklet. Its all very neatly presented, which made us even more eager to put the phone through its paces.

The Q3000 itself is unmistakably a mass-manufactured Android phone. You definitely wouldnt mistake it for a Samsung or HTC phone. Little things, like the rubberized plastic finish of the rear cover and the plastic assembly around the camera lens and ports, look a bit cheap. Construction quality is fairly solid, though. We had no complaints with the buttons or the way the phone is put together.

100rs_241314_171338_5563.jpg/

The rear cover peels off when you pry it a bit with a fingernail. You have to work your way around the edges of the phone to release five or six clasps before the entire thing pops off. Beneath the cover is a cavernous space for the phones 4,000mAh battery, in addition to slots for two SIM cards and a micro-SD storage card. Strangely, the primary SIM card slot takes only the older mini-SIM size but the secondary slot needs a micro-SIM.

As with most phones this size, the power/standby button has been moved to the upper right edge, approximately where your thumb would be if you held the phone in your right hand. The volume rocker is exactly opposite it, and theres nothing else on the sides. The headset jack and micro-USB port are on the top, while the bottom is blank. In another strange design decision, the primary microphone for voice calls is on the back. The phones tapered edge means its still pointed downwards, but were going to have to test for ourselves whether or not this is a problem.

100_0688rs_241314_171342_4227.jpg/

Features

Xolo really has tried to pack everything it can into the Q3000. Its billed as a non-stop entertainment device, so the first thing we need to check is the screen. Thankfully, Xolo has used an excellent panel. The full HD resolution of course means that every little detail is crisp and clear. Colours are clean, but a little muted. We were especially pleased with the viewing angles. Of secondary importance is the sound, and its here that we were disappointed. The phones speaker is just not powerful enough at all. Its surprisingly soft even at full volume, and we werent impressed at all with the quality and depth we of what were able to hear.

100_0686rs_241314_171343_5008.jpg/ There isnt much to get excited about with the Q3000s camera. When seen at their full resolution of 4864x2736, photos are grainy and artefacted. Thankfully theres enough headroom to scale them down, which definitely improves their sharpness. Theres an HDR mode which works quite well, exposing areas in shadow alongside those in bright light. Nighttime performance, however, is a whole different story. The flash barely made a difference in poorly lit areas, and there wasnt much of the scene we could make out at all.IMG_20140124_210750.jpg IMG_20140124_155357.jpg

Videos are recorded in 3GP format. At 1080p, these were sharp enough for us. Focusing was a bit laggy, but otherwise we had no complaints.

Software

The Q3000 runs Android 4.2.1, which is quite old now. Were not sure that this phones target audience will care all that much about such details, but its worth noting for future compatibility issues. There isnt much modification to the basic Android OS, but Xolo has bundled a few apps. Xolo Power is a neat tool for monitoring the health of the battery. It shows how much time youre likely to have left for various tasks such as audio playback and 3G browsing, and also reports whether the general health of the battery has deteriorated. On another tab, you get quick access to battery saving features such as a Night Mode and Sync Frequency. The last mode actually has nothing to do with the battery: it shows you how active each of the four CPU cores is, and shows you which applications have crashed recently.

Xolo Secure is an anti-theft and security app that lets you remotely track your phone, make it sound an alarm, wipe out all personal data, and take photos of anyone who tries to unlock it. If the phones SIM card is changed, the app will send alerts to up to two preregistered numbers and your email address. The app itself can be locked down with a 6-digit PIN. Finally, while Google automatically backs up contacts, the app promises to also back up your SMS and call history databases.

Another interesting touch is what Xolo calls "one-handed mode". With a long press on the Back button at any point, the entire interface shrinks to about two-thirds its size and appears to run inside a window. You can drag this window around the screen, which remains black. Its designed to help people reach all corners of the screen when holding the device in one hand, which is an admirable thought. However, the windowed mode is extremely sluggish. It feels like were running a remote-access session to a phone somewhere far away. You really cant get much done in this mode, which makes us question the way in which it has been implemented.

Performance and battery life

The Mediatek MTK6589T that powers the Xolo Q3000 isnt exactly the newest or most powerful piece of silicone available. It was launched in late 2012, and even then, it wasnt at the top of the heap. Its based on ARMs relatively low-powered Cortex A7 processing core, which was specifically designed for low-power, low-intensity applications. Graphics are handled by an integrated PowerVR SGX544 GPU: again, not exactly cutting-edge technology.

As a result, the benchmark scores are not impressive at all. In fact, the performance numbers across most of our tests indicated that this phone performs barely half as well as todays high-end phones from mainstream brands. CPU performance wasnt all that bad: we recorded scores of 15,130 in AnTuTu and 5,832 in Quadrant. Graphics performance, on the other hand, was quite abysmal. The phone managed to push out only 3.4 frames per second in the GFXbench test, and 1,879 in 3DMarks Ice Storm Extreme test.

By now, our expectations had been tempered and so the video playback test results werent a surprise. The Q3000 was able to handle video files in various formats at resolutions up to 720p, but 1080p was completely unwatchable. Some of our test files didnt play at all, others were completely mangled, and only one played with heavy stuttering. Its a bit jarring for a device to not be able to play video at its own native resolution - and that includes videos recorded with the phones own camera.

The scores show that the hardware simply isnt up to the task of pushing anything more intensive than simple 2D graphics on the full-HD screen, which is a shame. You wont notice much of a problem if you only run basic apps, but modern games are pretty much out of the question.

Despite the massive 4,000mAh battery, we were surprised that our video loop test ran for only six hours and twenty minutes. Weve had phones with similar screens and smaller batteries last for well over 10 hours under exactly the same conditions.

Verdict

The Q3000s price will attract some of the buyers who were looking at Samsung and HTCs larger offerings but were put off by the high cost. If you only want a big-screened phone for the sake of having a big screen, youll be happy with this phone. Not only is the size impressive, but the full HD resolution gives it a sharpness that other models with 720p screens cant compare to. However, having an HD screen in this case wont mean you get to enjoy HD content.

With a lower-grade panel, Xolo could have put out a much better balanced phone at a lower price. We wont deny that the screen looks fantastic, so if you want your apps to look good and arent concerned with movies and games, theres nothing stopping you from buying this phone.

Android

RPG titles are perhaps the most immersive games around. They grip you with deep and rich stories that not only connect you with the characters you play, but they thrust you into the danger of battle and test your decision making skills. Which attack to use, which spell to cast, and so on. There are many types of RPG games, some of the best of the year have been Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy IV The After Years, Ravensword Shadowlands, Dungeon Hunter 4, Symphony of the Origin, Tales of Illyria, and Fortuna Magus. RPG games continue to captivate gamers with vast adventure beyond untold imagination.

Runner Up: Final Fantasy IV

The Final Fantasy series is widely popular and loved by many fans the world over. Thankfully we’ve been lucky enough to receive the first five games in the series with the sixth on the way. Final Fantasy IV is quite possibly one of the best in the series, and the Android version is a port of the DS remake of the original game. It has a rich storyline that forges a bond between the gamer and each character within the game, which is further strengthened by the voice acting and hours upon hours of gameplay. FF IV has the active time battle system as well as the augment system which allows you transfer certain abilities between characters. Final Fantasy IV is a classic that remains among the top RPG games of all time. You can grab yourself a copy of Final Fantasy IV from the Play Store for $15.99.

Winner: Drakeriderdrakerider_100312_1600

Drakerider is another RPG title from acclaimed game studio Square Enix, but is a completely original game for mobile. It is because of this along with the compelling use of story and RPG action were used to from Square that has earned Drakerider our award for Best RPG of 2013. The unique battle system that is set up within the game is different from any other RPG. Instead of actually fighting with the games main character, you attack with a powerful dragon which you control. Choosing your attack potency is as simple as dragging your finger across the screen to tighten or loosen the chains which bind your drake. You’ll need to be careful not to loosen them too much however or the drake can go berserk and kill you. Its truly a unique experience for an RPG. The graphics are also top notch. Since you’ll be battling with your drake, you’ll have to develop his abilities to make him stronger. Drakerider also presents the you with a choice on which abilities you do and don’t want to learn. Picking certain abilities will close off the path to others, so make sure you choose wisely. You will have to decide for yourself which ones are more important on your journey. The combination of an excellent story, amazing graphics, originality and most important of all fun, make Drakerider the best RPG of the year. If you want an original RPG experience unlike any other, you can grab Drakerider from the Play Store.Google-Play-Banner-Get-it-On-Large1

Tasked with saving BlackBerry, can the first BB 10 handset deliver?

The BlackBerry Z10 was the first handset from the company formerly known as RIM, now renamed BlackBerry, to run its new operating system BlackBerry 10, and there was much more on the line here than simply making a few pennies – arguably the companys survival rested on the success of this device and the BlackBerry Q10.

Its no secret that BlackBerry is on the rocks, with the company even admitting that it hasnt been in the best shape of late, and the 4G toting Z10 was the start of what it hoped would be a successful revolution.
Since its launch in January the BlackBerry Z10 has received a few software updates which has seen things become more stable, plus the app store has also witnessed some new arrivals, so weve taken the time to update the keys parts of our review with the latest information.

In the UK the handset has witnessed a massive price drop since launch and you can pick up the Z10 free on contracts starting at £32 per month, while youll need to fork out just £149.95 if you want it SIM-free.

Sporting a 4.2-inch 1280 x 768 display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and lower price tag, the BlackBerry Z10 finds itself jostling for position with the Nokia Lumia 925, Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and iPhone 5C.

Lock eyes on the BlackBerry Z10 and youll notice its an unassuming slab of black glass and plastic that mimics the general aesthetical design of many a smartphone these days.

The Z10 is a little bezel-heavy with a sizable gap above and below the screen, and thats before we even get to the additional plastic chunks stuck on both ends of the handset.

BlackBerry Z10 review

It all seems a little unnecessary but luckily it doesnt make the BlackBerry Z10 overly cumbersome, with the handset measuring a comfortable 130 x 65.6 x 9mm (5.1 x 2.6 x 0.4 inches).

Weight wise the BlackBerry Z10 finds a happy medium – weighing 137.5g (4.85 oz), its nowhere near as heavy as the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, yet its not as feather light as the iPhone 5.

BlackBerry Z10 review

The weight gives it a reassuring presence in the palm and while the chassis is distinctly plastic, the handsets heft at least restores some form of premium feel.

Around the back youre greeted with a textured plastic rear that is slightly rubberised, providing a decent level of grip.

BlackBerry Z10 review

There are only a couple of things to note on the back of the BlackBerry Z10: the 8MP camera with a single LED flash, sat in the top-left corner, and the shiny metallic BlackBerry logo in middle.

We were pleased to find that the rear can be removed easily by placing a finger in the indented speaker grill at the base of the Z10, enabling us to simply peel off the plastic.

BlackBerry Z10 review

Underneath youll find microSIM and microSD slots, with the latter capable of supporting cards up to 32GB in capacity, although weve been told that a future update may see this support boosted to the 64GB variants.

This means you can build nicely on the already decent 16GB of internal storage, which will appeal to many who have been put out by the likes of the iPhone range and HTC One, which dont offer storage expansion.

BlackBerry Z10 review

An added boon is the removable 1,800mAh battery, enabling you to switch out a dead battery for a fully charged one if youre someone who likes to carry multiple power packs around.

On the rear cover itself youll notice the NFC pad, which enables the BlackBerry Z10 to interact with other compatible wireless devices.

BlackBerry Z10 review

On the right-hand side of the Z10, anyone familiar with the BlackBerry PlayBook will instantly recognise the triple button setup, with volume rocker switches separated by a central key – used for playing/pausing music and activating voice control when held down.

Up top you get a centralised power/lock key next to a 3.5mm headphone jack, while on the left theres a couple of handy connectivity ports.

BlackBerry Z10 review

The metal finish of the keys gives the handset a touch of class - if not a little sharp when you catch your finger on them - and all are well positioned, enabling us to reach them easily when using the Z10 one-handed.

The now standard microUSB port that features on pretty much every phone these days (bar the iPhone) is present, alongside a miniHDMI port. This enables you to connect the BlackBerry Z10 directly to a TV for big screen viewing.

BlackBerry Z10 review

Theres no HDMI cable in the box so youll need to pick one up separately, but there is at least a USB cable so you can hook the Z10 up to your computer.

The BlackBerry Z10 doesnt wow us with a new design, but its a sturdy handset with a decent build quality and functional layout that makes it easy to handle.
